In the fall of 2019, a fresh-faced kid from San Bernadino, California headed east to Tempe, Arizona to play football. Today, that kid from the Golden State lives across the other side of the country and is now the starting quarterback for the Washington Commanders.

Rookie Jayden Daniels spent three seasons at Arizona State University, and this week, he and the Commanders are down in the desert practicing on his old stomping Grounds at Arizona State University.

In speaking with the media, Daniels spoke about his time at ASU and how it helped him grow as a person.

"I came here at 18 and kind of was still trying to find myself," Daniels told Devils Digest's Justin LaCertosa on Wednesday. "Once I made that move to transfer, I was 21 years old and was kind of able to find out who I am as a man, being away and being on my own.

“That move helped out a lot from, you know, being able to grow up, figure out who I am as a person, who I am as a football player and going from there."

Daniels must have figured it out as he would transfer to LSU ahead of the 2022 season and win the Heisman Trophy last year. That growth made him the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft.

The Commanders are in Arizona to take on the Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in nearby Glendale on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET.
