Ex-NBA MVP Blasts Steve Kerr, Says Nikola Jokic 'Made a Fool' Out of Team USA

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr steered Team USA to its fifth straight gold medal in the Olympics after ruling Paris.

The road to the crown, however, was anything but easy. Kerr was chastised by fans for his decision-making, including benching Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum.

Team USA had to go through the wringer in the semifinals against Serbia, which was led by Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic. The gold medal match against France wasn't a cakewalk, as well. Still, Kerr and his wards captured the crown.

Despite this, NBA legend Oscar Robertson slammed Kerr, particularly for his defensive strategy against Jokic.

"Jokic made a fool out of USA," said the former MVP on the "All the Smoke" podcast. "All because that guard (switched on him) didn't fight through to get to his man.

"Why am I gonna go inside and play against a 7-foot-4 guy? And USA kept doing that and Jokic kept scoring that. What was the coach doing? Kerr, you can't say you want Steph Curry to switch off on Jokic."

Team USA hacked out a, 95-91, win over Serbia courtesy of Curry's heroics. Contrary to Robertson's claim, Jokic didn't have his usual spectacular output against Team USA. He had 17 points on 7-of-17 shooting.

It's not the first time that the 85-year-old Robertson sharply criticized the younger generation of players. Former NBA guard Lou Williams even recently shared a story of Robertson dissing guys like Chris Paul and Shaquille O'Neal.

Kerr, meanwhile, has intimated that he has no plans of returning as Team USA coach, saying it's time to "pass the baton."
