Sheryl Swoopes Explains Real Reason She Was Absent from Caitlin Clark Broadcast vs. Wings

Social media went into a frenzy when WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes wasn’t in the broadcast booth for the Sept. 1 matchup between the Indiana Fever and Dallas Wings.

Most believed it was because of the critical remarks Swoopes had been sharing both on her podcast and on social media about Fever rookie Caitlin Clark and the firestorm it had started among WNBA fans.

However, Swoopes set the record straight on what really went down during a recent appearance on Chicago Sky star Angel Reese’s podcast, “Unapologetically Angel.”

“That’s not how that happened,” Swoopes said . “…This is so funny to me. They were like, “Oh, Sheryl was replaced, they fired her, they kicked her off the game because it’s Caitlin Clark and she can’t do that game.’

“…I was contracted to do seven Dallas Wings games, I was never supposed to do that game anyway. But because of everything else, they just figured because I didn’t do that game that they fired me, but really my contract was up.”

The timing of the move was a bit curious as Swoopes had taken some heat days before the Fever-Wings game for defending Sky guard Diamond DeShields after she fouled Clark hard from behind and knocked her to the floor.

Swoopes’ comments only further fanned the speculation that she had some sort of personal vendetta against Clark and was not only rooting against her but openly supporting other players purposely targeting her.

A six-time WNBA All-Star and four-time WNBA champion, Swoopes has been under fire all season long for her constant criticism of Clark, which has gotten her called out by several of her media peers including Stephen A. Smith, Shannon Sharpe and others.
