Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has nothing but respect and admiration for Derrick Rose, who announced his retirement from the NBA on Thursday.

After being waived by the Memphis Grizzlies , there were expectations that Rose would look for a new team to continue his career. But in a heartfelt letter addressed to the game of basketball, the one-time NBA MVP confirmed his decision to call it a career.

"You told me it's okay to say goodbye, reassuring me that you'll always be a part of me, no matter where life takes me," Rose wrote in his letter shared on social media and printed on several full-page newspaper ads in the cities where he played in during his NBA career.

After seeing Rose's announcement, James made sure to give the Chicago Bulls great the respect and acknowledgment he deserves. For those unaware, James and Rose were teammates for half a season with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017-18.

"Much love and respect Pooh!!! Salute," the Lakers forward wrote on his Instagram Stories along with a photo from Rose's announcement of his retirement.

James later added, "FOREVER IMMORTALIZED" before using the goat emoji--meaning Greatest Of All Time--to heap more praise on D-Rose.

While Derrick Rose's career didn't pan out the way he wanted to due to injuries, there's still much to celebrate about it. He's a three-time All-Star and one-time All-NBA First Team member, not to mention that he remains the youngest player ever to win NBA MVP (at 22 years old).

As LeBron James said, Rose is forever immortalized and will be fondly remembered by fans, especially among the Bulls faithful.
