Richard Sherman, Travis Hunter Controversy Takes New Turn After Latest Update

Colorado's two-way superstar Travis Hunter has arguably been the biggest story of this college football season.

He has shown he can dominate at both receiver and corner and has also been building a legitimate case for the Heisman. However, his ability to play both positions at such a high level and volume has become a topic of discussion among NFL circles.

While making an appearance on the "St. Brown Podcast," Richard Sherman explained that not only would NFL offenses attack Hunter when he plays defense to force him to burn energy, but he also doesn't view him as a special talent at receiver.

“I think he goes as a corner just because receivers his size … he’s not a special size, super dynamic route runner,” Sherman explained . “He’s a great athlete and he’s smooth so he can get it done. I’m sure if he focused on receiver he could be elite, but as a corner, he just looks natural. It’s back to catching a ball and he’s in position all the time. He’s breaking right, he has a good feel for it, and it’s so rare.”

The criticism, of course, caught the attention of Hunter, who took to social media with a blunt response to Sherman.

"Stop speaking on me," Hunter wrote . "Let me play football."

A comment that may have indicated that Hunter didn't appreciate the criticism from the former Seattle Seahawks star, which Sherman appeared to have felt the need to address further with Hunter. Sherman took to social media on Thursday to reveal that Colorado head coach Deion Sanders set up an opportunity for him to chat with Hunter, which Sherman revealed allowed for things to be cleared up between the two.

"Just had a great conversation with @TravisHunterJr (Travis Hunter)," Sherman wrote . "Preciate you @DeionSanders (Deion Sanders) for setting that up. Huge fan of that young man and grateful to be able to clear that up."

Sherman also announced in the comment section of his post that Hunter will be on the "Richard Sherman Podcast" after a fan expressed that a video of the conversation would be "epic."

"He will be on the podcast soon and we will have it," Sherman wrote regarding Hunter appearing on his podcast.

While the conversation between the two will be interesting to witness, Hunter likely won't change his mind about wanting to play both ways at the next level. Earlier this month, he told Forbes he plans on playing both receiver and corner in the NFL

“My goal is to continue to be a two-way player,” Hunter said . “If given the opportunity, I’d strive to continue making an impact on both ends of the field, helping my team wherever they need me most. One of my greatest strengths is my versatility as a player, and I love the challenge of learning and excelling in both roles and pushing my limits.”

Hunter is certainly proving that teams should at least consider playing him both ways, as he is on pace to smash his previous career highs in just about every category.

Just four games into the season, Hunter has already tied his career-high in touchdown catches with five and is just 20 catches short of matching the 57 he hauled in last year. A mark that he could realistically surpass in the coming weeks if he continues to post nine catches per game. Defensively, he is on pace to surpass the number of tackles he recorded last year (31), as he is already at 14, and he also has an interception to his name as well this season.

In terms of what position he plays at the next level, that decision doesn't need to be made at this moment but it will certainly be discussed.
