After the Chicago Sky finished the year with a 13-27 record and failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2018, the team decided to cut ties with first-time head coach Teresa Weatherspoon.

The news sent shockwaves throughout the WNBA, as numerous fans and analysts believed the franchise would have more patience Weatherspoon during a rebuilding year. Weatherspoon who previously served as head coach Louisiana Tech's women's basketball team before working as a player development coach for the New Orleans Pelicans, however, is not getting a second season in Chicago.

Weathespoon, 58, appeared to know her days were numbered in Chicago. Just three days before she was fired, the WNBA Hall of Famer posted a cryptic message on Instagram.

Weatherspoon wrote, "Blessed!!! Through it all, I know who holds my hand and knows MY NAME!!! I don't own the rights to this song, but I thank God I know who does. @tashacobbsleonard. #LookingForwardAlways."

While Sky rookie Angel Reese posted an emotional message on X, noting how she was "heartbroken" and "at a loss for words" over Weatherspoon's exit, The Chicago Sun-Time's Annie Costabile revealed not all players shared her unwavering confidence in their head coach.

Costabile reported the while players were "outwardly supportive" of Weatherspoon, exit interviews revealed a "disconnect" with their coach. "Multiple players noted the changing play style throughout the year and mentioned the learning curve of being a first-year coach."

Despite Weatherspoon's exit, Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca will remain in his role. It's unclear who will replace Weatherspoon.
