Sheryl Swoopes Speculation Intensifies After Angel Reese Message, Sky Coach Firing

After the Chicago Sky fired head coach Teresa Weatherspoon , speculation about Sheryl Swoopes potentially taking over the team has intensified. Angel Reese's recent message to the WNBA legend only further fueled those talks.

Swoopes certainly has the winning pedigree to command the respect of players, boasting four WNBA championships and three league MVPs in her resume. Furthermore, by the looks of it, she has interest in potentially being a coach in the pros.

When Reese asked her to join the Sky as a coach in a recent episode of her podcast, Swoopes didn't hesitate and quickly said "yes." The six-time All-Star added that she would love to work with Reese and teammate Chennedy Carter.

It's worth noting that Reese made the pitch to Swoopes before Weatherspoon was fired. And considering how much the 22-year-old loves her now-former coach, she likely wanted Swoopes to be part of Weatherspoon's staff.

Regardless, with Weatherspoon gone and Reese clearly a fan of Swoopes, several WNBA fans feel that the 53-year-old WNBA great could be (and should be) in the running for the Sky job.

"The WNBA is more wacky than a CW drama which I thought was impossible! Angel Reese wants Sheryl Swoopes to coach the Chicago Sky and then hours later Teresa Weatherspoon gets fired!" a commenter said.

"Will Sheryl Swoopes coach the Sky now?" a fan asked , referring to Reese's interview with her. A third poster echoed the same sentiment, noting, "Maybe they’re going to hire Sheryl Swoopes. Angel asked her to coach the Sky on her podcast."

Another one shared , "Sky fans having it rough. Unsure on the move and why. I can definitely see Sheryl Swoopes getting an interview and possibly becoming the next coach."

"Swoopes lowkey makes sense as the chicago Sky coach. Angel needs a Kim Mulkey type coach at the head of the snake. That overly nice shit wasn’t working for her," a supporter added .

A social media user furthered the conversation, saying, "Sheryl Swoopes would be the perfect choice to replace Teresa Weatherspoon as Head Coach of the Chicago Sky! A trailblazer. A legend. A leader."

The Sky have yet to make a decision on who will replace Teresa Weatherspoon. Aside from Sheryl Swoopes, they definitely have a number of options . Sure enough, it's safe to expect that Chicago will take its time and do its due diligence before hiring their next head coach.
