Concerning Russell Wilson Update Revealed by NFL Insider

    By Paolo Mariano,

The Pittsburgh Steelers are off to a hot start with a 3-0 record behind the spectacular play of quarterback Justin Fields.

Many raised the alarm when Fields became the Steelers' de facto starter when veteran Russell Wilson, who was penciled in as the main signal-caller, went down with a calf injury just a few days before the campaign.

So far, it has turned out great. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has been largely evasive about the 25-year-old Fields being the squad's permanent starter moving forward.

But according to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler , this could be the case since the 35-year-old Wilson isn't recuperating as expected.

"What I've heard throughout is that Wilson's calf injury is no joke, and playing/practicing in the preseason seemed to make it worse," Fowler wrote. "He's simply not moving at a high clip at this point.

"Also, my sense after asking around is that Fields might have graduated from the play-until-you-lose phase to gain the freedom to play through mistakes, within reason."

Wilson hasn't played less than 14 games in a season in his entire career.

Tomlin earlier said Wilson could still start when he's fully healed. The nine-time Pro Bowler joined the Steelers in the offseason via a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum of $1.2 million.

Meanwhile, Fields, who also joined the Steelers in the offseason, has an average passing completing rate of 73.3% after their first three wins. He also has 518 passing yards and two passing touchdowns.

trade him already. Why do him like that. I think he's proven that he's an establish quarterback and the two years he had was not mostly his fault. I am a die hard steelers fan through thick and thin and I can't believe the steelers will do that to a veteran quarterback.
