'Toast!': Giants' Super Bowl Champ Calls For Brian Daboll Firing

To some, the New York Giants' 20-15 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night was disappointing, but promising. The Giants lost for 12th consecutive time to Dak Prescott, but a game in which they were throwing toward the end zone in the final seconds of a five-point game is a huge step in the right direction compared to last year's losses to Dallas by 40 and 32 points.

To others, however - like former Giants' Super Bowl champion Chris Canty - it wasn't competitive. It was catastrophic.

So bad was the coaching in the game, according to Canty, that it should cost Brian Daboll his job.

"Toast," said Canty, starting defensive lineman on the 2011 team that won Super Bowl XLVI. "Brian Daboll is toast."

Daboll was NFL Coach of the Year in 2022, but since then the Giants are 7-14 after the loss to Dallas. Canty criticized his lack of consistency, kicking a field goal on 4th-and-3 in the first half but three possessions later going for a 4th-and-7.

Daboll's fate might be tied to quarterback Daniel Jones. Even though the Giants reportedly tried to trade for Drake Maye in last April's NFL Draft, if Jones doesn't drastically improve it could cost the coach his job.

“I am going to say Daniel Jones has a better chance of being back than Brian Daboll does,” Canty said. “If I had to choose, one guy stays and one guy goes, it is clear and obvious to me that Daboll goes and Jones stays. I am not all the way out on Daniel Jones. But at 1-3, from what I’ve seen from the Giants, I am pretty much there with Brian Daboll.”

It wasn't like the Giants were blown out, or didn't belong on the field with the defending NFC East champs. Maybe somebody should remind Canty that his Super Bowl team was 7-7 at Christmas.
