Joel Klatt Defends Deion Sanders and Colorado Buffaloes for Controversial Actions vs. Baylor

It's been almost a week since Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes beat the Baylor Bears in overtime, but we're still talking about it heading into Week 5 of the college football season.

That's the Coach Prime experience in Boulder.

After the Buffs mounted a massive comeback vs. Baylor and used a Hail Mary from Shedeur Sanders to force overtime, topped only by a Travis Hunter forced fumble to win the game, all hell broke loose in Boulder.

It resulted in fans storming the field — prematurely at first — and receiving a ton of backlash on social media for their actions, particularly reacting in that fashion after beating an unranked team with a coach on the hot seat.

After the game, Sanders came out and said that he doesn't approve of the field storming, but he loves the passion the fanbase showed.

"I don't like what transpired at the end of the game, but I love what transpired at the end of the game," Sanders said this week. "We have a fanbase that's phenomenal, and we have some young kids on this campus that love and breathe CU football, and I'm thankful."

On his podcast this week, Fox Sports analyst — and former Colorado Buffaloes QB — Joel Klatt stood up for Sanders and his team and applauded them for the field storming after the game.

"I totally agree with him," Klatt said. "I feel like you should only storm the field for spectacular moments. But guess what? That was one of them. They just tied the game with a Hail Mary and then forced a fumble to win in overtime. What do you want them to do? That's what makes football, and college football more specifically, so amazing."

Klatt certainly has a point that there isn't a problem with fans showing this enthusiasm after a thrilling win.

However, what most general college football fans were upset about is the two-faced nature of the event. The Buffs walk through much of the season portraying themselves as a powerhouse that should be competing for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Meanwhile, they celebrated an overtime win over a bad Baylor Bears team like they won a championship.

The general feeling is that you shouldn't be able to have it both ways.

In the end, it's hard to blame Klatt or Sanders for their opinions. In this situation, to each their own.

Klatt is just as unlikable as Deion anymore! CU syndrome is real! Hypocrisy and narcissism are the primary symptoms, followed by denial.
