Now that the dust has settled on the Indiana Fever's first-round elimination in the WNBA playoffs, the fans are starting to look ahead at what's to come for this young team next season.

This, of course, includes significant personnel decisions that need to be made in the offseason, with perhaps none more compelling than the future of two-time All-Star Kelsey Mitchell. The 28-year-old has become an unrestricted free agent, which means that she could walk away from Indiana and sign a new contract with a different team if she so chooses.

Mitchell recently opened up about her offseason plans amid all the buzz surrounding her supposed Fever exit. The 5-foot-8 guard acknowledged the fact that Indiana will always be home for her (she's played all seven years of her career for the Fever), but at the same time, Mitchell refused to close the door on her potential departure.

“Definitely a lot of emotions and thoughts that float through my mind,” Mitchell said, via Fever reporter Matthew Byrne of ClutchPoints . “I know that when the time comes and the opportunity is ready for me to make those decisions — obviously, I've always had a home in Indy, so it could potentially be a home for me again. But I think right now, the switching dynamic of my family and everything, you know, I gotta do what's best for me.

“I got to be selfish about that process. When I know, you’ll know.”

That statement does not exactly inspire confidence in Fever fans in terms of Mitchell's commitment to the team. At this point, however, as she said, she will need to put her family first above anything else.

Mitchell's father, Mark Mitchell, passed away in March this year, and she has been carrying this burden throughout this season. It appears that this tragic development will also play a role in her free agency decision.

If Mitchell has indeed already played her last game for the Fever, there's no denying that she has left a lasting legacy as one of the most prominent figures in franchise history.

Kelsey is a class act. I hope she stays with the Fever, however, I certainly understand that she is thinking of her family first. The right answer will come to her when the time is right. Exceptional basketball player and person. Wishing Kelsey all the best.

The FEVER player’s MORALE has been negatively impacted by the IMMORAL & blatant INEQUITY invading SPORT & tilting the once-level playing field. If next season is anything like this past season for the individual FEVER & “W” players, there’ll be more desertion of contracts & NO ONE will WANT to PLAY for the FEVER organization! It’s been insulting & disrespectful the way the organization, the media and analysts have blatantly ignored all other WNBA players; Coaching-In-Fear-of-Fans & Firing; REF’n in FAVE FLAVOR of FAVOR for a ROOKIE; land change’n the game to suit her CC’s for, “Give ME Grace” in order to allow a Rookie to fulfill the fan’s, media’s, analyst’s & endorser’s HYPED claims of a “greatness” that has yet to be realized. The cost & negative impact of the blatancy allowed by the “W” has been at a far greater expense than the revenue & leaves a deeper morale deficit well into NEGATIVE NONE & beyond the pale of recovery in terms of the League organization’s front office.
