Stanford's Blue-Chip Freshman QB Elijah Brown to Miss Time With Injury

Stanford Cardinal fans got a glimpse into their future at quarterback in the team's Week 2 domination of Cal Poly.

Four-star freshman out of Mater Dei, Elijah Brown, made his college debut in the fourth quarter of the 41-7 victory. Brown led the offense on two scoring drives, one of which saw him record his first career touchdown pass to Ismael Cisse.

He finished the game having completed 7-of-7 passes for 97 yards and the one score.

Being that Brown had such a strong spring that saw him work with the first and second teams, the assumption around the program was that he'd eventually take over as the starter sometime this season.

That sentiment will have to be put on ice, as head coach Troy Taylor revealed after the Syracuse game that Brown is out with an undisclosed injury for an undisclosed period of time.

“Yeah, he’s injured [and] he’ll be out for a little bit,” Taylor said when asked why Brown wasn't dressed out. “But, he should have a full recovery and once he’s physically ready to go, he’s obviously gonna be a really good player.”

For the Cardinal, they will be relying on second-year starter Ashton Daniels, and will likely also turn to Syracuse transfer Justin Lamson in the run game.

The Cardinal are hitting the road again for Saturday's game against Clemson, who ESPN has 21.5-point favorites.
