The NBA offseason has been quiet so far, with only a few major trades happening. That all changed on Friday night, though. In a shocking turn of events, Shams Charania reported that the Minnesota Timberwolves are trading Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks.

"Knicks have acquired Karl-Anthony Towns from Minnesota for Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo and a first-round pick via Detroit, sources tell me and @JonKrawczynski.," Charania reported.

The move has caused a stir around the NBA fanbase, as no one really expected this move to happen. Fans expressed their shock on X in the replies to Charania's post.

"cant believe wolves trading KAT after all that"

Considering that there haven't been a lot of rumors surrounding a KAT trade, this trade really threw fans in for a loop.

"When I say this is the most surprising trade I’ve ever seen, I am not exaggerating"

Some are confused about this trade, especially after the Timberwolves made it all the way to the Conference Finals for the first time in 20 years with KA.

In the end, this trade will probably go down as one of the most out-of-the-blue trades in NBA history.

Towns was an integral part of the Timberwolves' magical run to the Western Conference Finals in the postseason. The former first-overall pick averaged 19.1 points per game on 36.1% shooting from the outside, with nine rebounds in the playoffs. He proved to be a great complement to the emergent Anthony Edwards.

As for Randle, the Knicks star missed his team's run to the playoffs last season due to injury. However, when he was healthy, Randle was inarguably one of the best players on the team. The former Lakers first-round pick averaged 24 points, 9.2 rebounds and five assists per game prior to his January injury.

It's rare for two teams who made deep playoff pushes to essentially exchange stars in the following offseason. It will be interesting to see how both the Knicks and the Timberwolves fare after this ground-breaking trade.
