What was a truly enthralling matchup between Miami and Virginia Tech on Friday night ultimately ended in controversy. This is after the game officials decided to call off Virginia Tech's last-second Hail Mary touchdown -- a call that allowed the Hurricanes to escape with a 38-34 victory.

Virginia Tech nearly produced an upset win after putting up a formidable fight against the No. 7 seed Miami. The Hokies were in it until the very end, too, as quarterback Kyron Drones threw a 30-yard Hail Mary pass to Da'Quan Felton with just three seconds remaining in the game.

The Virginia Tech wide receiver made the catch at the edge of the end zone, but after reviewing the play, the game officials ultimately decided that the ball was caught out of bounds.

The fans are far from convinced, though, especially after seeing a couple of slow-mo replays that seem to support the notion that the game officials did not have irrefutable evidence to overturn what was initially called a touchdown on the field.

A close-up angle of Felton landing on the turf with the ball seemingly in his hands provided more evidence that could dispute the game official's decision to rule the play as an incomplete pass.

These replays have pretty much left the fans unconvinced of the end result. While more than a few supporters agree that Felton wasn't able to secure the catch, they have also taken issue with the fact that the game officials still decided to overturn the call without sufficient evidence to do so.

"Virginia Tech got hosed. Not enough evidence at all," a comment read.

"so wrong, called a TD on the field, no evidence to overturn," reacted a fan.

"Not a catch, but it’s also no where near clear and obvious it wasn’t. If it takes 5 minutes to review, you don’t overturn it," points out another.

"Originally called a catch. Not enough on review to overturn but I didn’t think it was a catch tbh," commented a user.

"Overturning made no sense with the call on the field. Chaos," a supporter stated.

Regardless of what the fans might think or say, however, this is now all water under the bridge.

Miami is now off to a 5-0 start after securing their first win over an ACC opponent this season, while Virginia Tech has no other choice but to take this brutal loss on the chin as they fall to 2-3.
