The Miami Hurricanes welcomed the Virginia Tech Hokies in Week 5, where both teams played in their ACC season opener. Miami came away with the 38-34 victory on Friday night.

Despite Virginia Tech driving down the field with seconds left in the game and a shot at victory with a Hail Mary pass, its last-second try for a touchdown was called incomplete.

Hokies quarterback Kyron Drones dropped back to heave a pass to the end zone at the end of the game, finding a group of Hokies receivers. While the initial play seemed to show VT receiver Da'Quan Felton bring the ball down for a touchdown, the officials ruled that Miami's defensive back made contact with the loose ball while out of bounds, resulting in an incomplete pass.

Shortly after the game concluded, the ACC released a statement backing the referee's decision to call the pass incomplete after originally ruling the catch a touchdown on the field.

“During the review process of the last play, It was determined that the loose ball was touched by a Miami player while he was out of bounds which makes it an incomplete pass and immediately ends the play."

Miami continued their ACC reign, while the Hokies fell in yet another matchup.

The hype train in South Florida is steaming. The Hurricanes are 5-0 on the season, having defeated Florida, USF, Florida A&M, Ball State and Virginia Tech.

The U has been running behind quarterback Cam Ward's Heisman-level play. During the win over the Hokies, Ward produced four touchdowns and 343 passing yards, completing 24-of-38 pass attempts.

Miami seems to be the favorite to win the ACC, having been tested multiple times this season. Florida State and Clemson came into the year as the favorites, but the Hurricanes look like the most talented team on both ends of the ball in the conference.

A couple of tests left on their schedule include matchups against Louisville, Florida State and Georgia Tech.
