Miami QB Cam Ward Makes Controversial Declaration After Virginia Tech Win

Some consider Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward to be one of the top players in college football, and the betting line for the Heisman Trophy seems to reflect that — Ward entered Week 4 as the Heisman favorite with +375 odds, per BetMGM .

But after Miami’s last-second 38-34 win over Virginia Tech on Friday — a game in which the Hurricanes narrowly escaped after a Hokies’ Hail Mary was called incomplete after video review — some are questioning if Miami and Ward are actually as good as they were hyped to be.

However, Ward seems to believe Virginia Tech was a signature win for him and the Hurricanes, and it only reinforced his status as a top-tier signal-caller.

“I’m the best player in the country,” Ward told the ACC Network. “I’m humbly saying that, and I’m confident saying that. I put myself in a situation like this — this is why I came to Miami to play with a good offense and a good defense — and both sides of the ball showed up today.”

Ward’s remarks were polarizing, and he was promptly put on blast in the comment section.
