The Minnesota Timberwolves shook the NBA world by trading Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks on Friday night.

The deal brought back Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, Kenta Bates-Diop and a protected first-round pick but drew various reactions on social media.

The first was the reasoning for the trade, which ranged from extending Anthony Edwards' window as he moves into the prime of his career, as reported by NBA insider Dane Moore.

Towns dealt with the news in a different way, tweeting three periods in reaction to the trade then posting a photo of him getting shots up with his father Karl Sr. at Mayo Clinic Square at 3 a.m.

Timberwolves fans had a tough time saying goodbye as well. The first overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, Towns grinded through some dark years and finally reached the Western Conference Finals last spring. But nobody expected Game 5 against the Dallas Mavericks to be his last game, which led to an outpouring of emotions on Twitter.

Then there were general NBA fans, who thought of what it meant for the Knicks and what a reunion with Tom Thibodeau, who coached the Timberwolves from 2016 to 2019.

The Towns trade is sure to send shockwaves throughout the NBA and it will be interesting how the deal plays out for the Wolves and the Knicks this season.
