Friday night’s 38-34 Miami Hurricanes win over the Virginia Tech Hokies just may be the most controversial ending of any game this college football season.

After Virginia Tech scored what was ruled the game-winning touchdown, the play was overturned after a video review, and the No. 7-ranked Hurricanes kept their undefeated season alive.

The controversy divided the college football world on Saturday morning, but so did something ESPN’s Pat McAfee declared on “College GameDay” about Miami’s last-second win.

“Coach (Mario) Cristobal understand, like, ‘Hey, we’ve got really high hopes this year. Let’s pay attention to detail, let’s do accountability while we still have our moxie and our swag,” McAfee said. “I don’t want to throw up a false flag, but you’re winning games like that, they’re going to the ACC in Charlotte, overturning touchdowns — the U might be back.”

Many contend Miami should’ve lost to Virginia Tech, and McAfee’s remarks only enraged some of those people even more. The polarizing analyst took plenty of heat on social media for his bold declaration.

“Shut your mouth @PatMcAfeeShow BS…..,” one fan wrote .

“They almost lost to VT at home but okay. This is why I don’t watch y’all anymore. It’s all about BIG NOON kickoff,” another remarked .

“You know your old when you can only tolerate about 30 mins of Gameday ... it's all too much nowadays,” a third quipped .

“Imagine watching last night's game and your top takeaway being that Miami is ‘back.’” another fan wrote .

“Lol you brainless dip**** say this every year! No they aren't. And they should have lost! Tech got robbed!” one user proclaimed .

“Back? The corrupt conference officials gave them a game to keep them in the national title conversation. In what world is that back?” another argued .

Though McAfee’s remarks rubbed some people the wrong way, many seemed to agree with what Nick Saban said moments later. The seven-time national championship suggested the Virginia Tech game was so close because Miami started to believe its own hype.
