LeBron James Makes Big Announcement With WNBA Legend

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James is entering the 22nd season of his NBA career. James has spent the last six seasons in Los Angeles, winning an NBA championship in 2020.

The NBA's all-time leading scorer, James has accomplished nearly everything the league has to offer. That said, the four-time Finals MVP has not made any announcement about retirement plans.

Similar to James, WNBA and Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi has not announced any retirement plans. While nothing is official, many believe the 2024 season was Taurasi's last.

Messaging and content from the Mercury has indicated Taurasi may soon call it a career.

In an Instagram post from Bleacher Report Kicks, it was announced that Nike will be releasing Diana Taurasi's Nike LeBron NXXT Gen AMPD PE on Oct. 1.

Making it official, James reshared this big announcement on his Instagram story.

Bleacher Report Kicks also suggested this could be the end of Taurasi's career, writing in their caption, "After an outstanding career, it is rumored this season might've been the WNBA legend's last 🫡"

Taurasi was selected first overall in the 2004 WNBA draft. In 20 seasons (did not play in 2015), Taurasi has made 14 All-WNBA teams and 11 All-Star appearances while winning three championships, two Finals MVP awards and one league MVP award.

Through her impact on basketball and partnerships off the court, like the one she has with Nike, Taurasi will always have a presence even after retirement. This is very similar to James, as the two basketball icons have changed their respective leagues.

Collaborating with Taurasi on this Nike sneaker, James officially announced the news on Saturday.
