NFL Analysts Came to Same Conclusion About Carson Beck and Shedeur Sanders

Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Georgia’s Carson Beck were believed to be the top two quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft.

After Saturday’s college football slate, that only appears to be true for one of them.

Sanders showed out in Colorado’s 48-21 win over UCF, passing for 290 yards and three touchdowns, while Beck struggled against No. 4 Alabama, throwing for 434 yards and three touchdowns but he also throwing three interceptions, including one in the end zone with 43 seconds left that cost UGA the game.

Both quarterback performances incited strong reactions from several notable NFL analysts, all of whom were in agreement that Sanders proved on Saturday he was the unquestioned No. 1 QB in next year’s draft.

“I'm no scout, but it sure looks to me like Shedeur Sanders is the superior prospect to Carson Beck at this early point in the season,” Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer wrote . “Colorado needs Sanders to be great every week. Georgia needed that from Beck this week, and the results haven't been pretty.”

“Beck isn’t even my top QB,” ESPN’s Matt Miller said . “That’s Sanders.”

“I know some experts have Beck rated above Sh. Sanders. Beck is surrounded by 4 star recruits,” Shannon Sharpe stated . “IF* I’m looking at resumes and surrounding talent. It’s hard 4 any1 2 pick Beck over Sanders. What say you?”

Beck’s poor showing couldn’t have come at a worse time.

On a national stage with several NFL scouts in attendance, Beck struggled against an Alabama defense loaded with future NFL prospects. Facing a step up in competition, some of Beck’s deficiencies really stuck out.

“Just keep an eye on how hard Carson Beck’s receivers have to work for the football too often,” Former ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay said . “His erratic ball placement continues to be an issue. From a scouting standpoint, it’s the biggest difference when comparing him to Shedeur Sanders (as I eluded to earlier this week).”

“Two passes in a row from Beck that are behind the receiver,” Miller said in a separate tweet . “That crops up too often in his tape.”

While it’s likely that Sanders and Beck could still be the first two QBs off the board in April (Texas’ Quinn Ewers may play himself into that conversation once he returns from his abdominal injury), Sanders showed the gap between himself and Beck is much bigger than most originally thought.
