Predicting the AP Top 25 College Football Poll After Week 5

    By Thomas Neumann,

Alabama highlighted the college football slate Saturday night, outlasting rival Georgia in a game that evoked College Football Playoff vibes.

The Crimson Tide (4-0) were an underdog at home for the first time since 2007, and few observers could've predicted what eventually transpired in Tuscaloosa as Alabama outlasted the Bulldogs, 41-34 . Georgia (3-1) looked sluggish and uninspired in falling behind 28-0 but rallied furiously and took a 34-33 lead with 2:31 left.

However, Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe connected with 17-year-old wideout Ryan Williams on the winning 75-yard touchdown pass on the ensuing drive. Alabama defensive back Zabien Brown clinched the victory with an interception in the end zone in the final minute.

Milroe boosted his Heisman stock , throwing for 374 yards and two touchdowns with one interception on 27-of-33 passing. He also ran for 117 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Bulldogs QB Carson Beck struggled early but rebounded to throw for 439 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions on 27-of-50 passing.

Although the Tide got the most memorable win of the day, Ohio State (4-0) earned a convincing 38-7 victory at Michigan State (3-2) that is likely to push the Buckeyes up to the No. 2 spot in the upcoming Associated Press Top 25 poll.
