Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce Jokingly Got Into It on Saturday

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are not only teammates on the Kansas City Chiefs. Their friendship has also extended off the field, with their respective partners, Brittany Mahomes and pop megastar Taylor Swift, already forming a strong bond as friends.

The dynamic is much different for Mahomes and Kelce when it comes to college football, though. Mahomes is a Texas Tech alumni while Kelce hails from Cincinnati. Well, their respective alma matters went head-to-head on Saturday night, which prompted quite an exchange between the two superstar teammates.

Ultimately, it was the Red Raiders who reigned supreme after a hard-fought battle, 44-41. The Bearcats did all they could to battle back in the fourth quarter after falling behind, 41-27. Unfortunately, their effort came up short as Texas Tech logged their fourth win of the season.

Unsurprisingly, this prompted some trash talk on Mahomes' end. He actually didn't have to say anything, save for a couple of Red Raiders gifs on X (formerly Twitter) featuring Texas Tech's mascots. The reigning Super Bowl MVP, of course, had to tag Kelce in his post.

Kelce knew Mahomes had the better of him here, so instead of talking back, the four-time All-Pro tight end just conceded defeat. Kelce did admit, though, that he was hoping for a miracle comeback right to the very end.

"Really thought the bearcats were gonna find a way to win that one at the end… smh," Kelce wrote.

This was obviously nothing more than friendly banter between two good buddies, who are now playing on the same side as professionals. In fact, Mahomes and Kelce are now gunning for their third straight Super Bowl title -- a feat that has never been achieved in the history of the NFL.

Be that as it may, what cannot be denied is that their loyalty to their respective schools remains unwavering.
