NFL Hits Eagles Star With Drug Test After Questionable Social Media Post

The Philadelphia Eagles' rollercoaster 2024 season continued on Sunday, including an off-field incident involving an inactive player.

After a blown fourth-quarter lead in Week 2 and a narrowly escaped win in New Orleans in Week 3, the Eagles were blown out 33-16 in Tampa Bay by Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers — the same team that knocked them out of the NFC Wild Card round in 2022 and 2024.

The loss dropped Philadelphia to 2-2 on the season.

Minutes after the final whistle, Eagles linebacker Devin White, who was inactive for the game against his former team due to a personal matter, took to social media with a curious update.

White, who said he was "not even at the stadium" for the game, took to X to share a screenshot of a text message he received about completing an NFL-sanctioned drug test.

"Devin White this is Davron Davis on behalf of the NFL," the text read. "You have been selected to complete a Performance Enhancing Substance (PES) test today. After the game, report to the drug testing area with valid ID to complete your test before departing the Stadium."

The former first-round pick and Pro Bowler responded, "This has to be fake," which was met with reassurance that the text came from a league-approved tester based in Tampa.

The NFL completes "random" drug screenings throughout the season, most commonly for active players.

Earlier in the game, White turned heads on social media after he reposted an X post about Lavonte David — his former Bucs teammate — forcing a fumble against his current team. He later claimed "I only meant to  to ♥️ it !!"

White, 26, quickly rose to stardom during his first four NFL seasons with the Buccaneers. He racked up 281 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks, nine fumble recoveries and 55 quarterback hits between 2019-22.

After a falling out in Tampa that included an unsatisfied trade request, White signed a one-year, $4 million free agent deal with the Eagles in March. However, the big-name linebacker has yet to suit up in 2024, in part due to injury.
