Zero TDs as Jets Miss Game-Winner In 10-9 Loss To Broncos

The New York Jets lost to the Denver Broncos at home on Sunday 10-9. The offense sputtered most of the day, only producing 248 yards while going 0-2 in the red zone.

Kicker Greg Zuerlein made 3-of-4 field goals on the day, but the miss was the game-winner from 50 yards out.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Jets took over on their own 40-yard line after a Broncos missed field goal. He connected with running back Breece Hall for a 9-yard gain. On the following play, he went to the left side to Mike Williams and the Broncos were called for pass interference, moving the ball to their own 36 with 1:01 remaining.

From the 36, needing maybe five or so yards to get a game-winning field goal attempted under 50 yards, Rodgers threw the ball on three straight plays, connecting on just one for a 4-yard gain.

That set Zuerlein up on the left hash mark. The snap was good, the hold was good, and “Greg the Leg” missed wide right by about 3 yards. That means he pushed the ball 27-feet 6-inches to the right. Missing the kick gave the ball back to the Broncos.

They just had to kneel on the ball twice and that was the game.

Special teams are important. Every aspect of it. So far this year, Zuerlein is 0-2 on anything over 40 yards. That’s not a good sign. Regardless of how they got down there, that is a kick he has to make.

He didn’t, and the Jets lose. They will turn the page and get back to work as they head to London to take on the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday morning.
