Derrick Henry Comes Up One Yard Shy Of NFL History On Sunday Night Football

    By Dave Ettinger,

Since entering the NFL in 2016, Derrick Henry has consistently been one of the league's best running backs. He eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing in five of the eight seasons he spent with the Tennessee Titans, including a 2,000-yard rushing season in 2020.

Henry also continues to be an absolute workhorse, defying logic from the running back position. Henry has led the league in carries four of the past five seasons, and his 17-game career averages stood at 291 carries, 1,363 yards, and 13 touchdowns heading into Sunday night.

Henry is also the active rushing leader with 9,982 rushing yards (good for 32nd all-time). And while Henry had an absolute monster night against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football, Henry finished the game just ONE YARD SHY of NFL history.

Henry finished Sunday night's game with 199 rushing yards. If he had rushed for just one more yard, he would have set the record for the most 200-yard rushing games in NFL history. Henry is currently tied with O.J. Simpson and Adrian Peterson with six 200-yard rushing games.

Henry jumpstarted his night with an 87-yard TD run on the Ravens first play from scrimmage. The thing that is most impressive about Henry, is his breakaway speed for a 30-year old listed at 247 pounds. The proof is in the numbers:

While Henry probably would have loved to stand alone in the record books, he doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. Henry is also continuing to show the Ravens they made the right decision signing him to a two-year, $16 million contract in the offseason.

This young man deserves everything he gets. He is one of the most humble snd respectful professional athletes that i have ever met. He doesnt act like Derrick Henry professional athlete. Hes more like Derrick Henry, everyday guy. This kid is truly a class act. He reminds me of Fred Taylor, Emmitt Smith, and Warrick Dunn. A lot of the good guys get bad raps because of the jerks.
