The San Francisco 49ers secured a much-needed victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday, improving to 2-2 and ending a two-game skid. Quarterback Brock Purdy has quietly been highly effective throughout the first four weeks, and after the win, he distinguished himself by achieving a historic milestone.

Purdy completed 15 of 27 passing attempts for 288 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, maintaining an 89.7 passer rating for the afternoon. For the season, he has accumulated 1,130 yards, five touchdowns, a 68.9% completion percentage, and a 104.9 passer rating. With these performances, he has positioned himself atop the leaderboard as a passer through his first 25 career starts.

Since the merger in 1966, Brock Purdy has recorded the highest passer rating (112.6) in NFL history through a player’s first 25 career starts, ranking above Patrick Mahomes in second and Kurt Warner in third.

Purdy has been a pleasant surprise in every aspect since being drafted as the last pick in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. No one, except perhaps himself, could have anticipated the player he has become.

He has led the 49ers to the NFC Championship in two consecutive seasons after taking over the starting job from Jimmy Garoppolo . Last season, he guided San Francisco to the Super Bowl, where they suffered a heartbreaking defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs .
