Chiefs Urged to Target Six-Time Pro Bowl Receiver Amid Injury Issues

The Kansas City Chiefs escaped with a 17-10 victory over the rival Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4, but the win wasn't without casualties. No. 1 wide receiver Rashee Rice suffered a potentially season-ending knee injury after Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes made a questionable tackling attempt.

The Chiefs are currently 4-0 to begin the 2024 NFL season, but staying perfect will be only tougher without Rice — as well as fellow offensive difference-makers Isiah Pacheco and Marquise Brown — in the lineup. Fortunately, there's some time for the defending Super Bowl champions to find offensive help ahead of the Nov. 5 trade deadline .

One NFL analyst suggests that Kansas City should target a certain six-time 1,000-yard receiver.

On the latest edition of the NFL Network's "Good Morning Football," Peter Schrager suggested four wideouts that the Chiefs should trade for, including Keenan Allen.

Allen, 32, spent his first 11 seasons with the Chargers before being traded to the Chicago Bears this summer. So, why would the Bears be open to trading him less than a year after acquiring him?

For starters, the trade allegedly "blindsided" the former California product after he made it clear he didn't want to play elsewhere at the start of the offseason. Secondly, he's set to become a free agent at the end of the season, meaning the Bears might be willing to trade him now rather than risk losing him for nothing.

Thirdly, it isn't as if Allen has impacted the Bears' passing game much. He ranks fifth on the team with 14 targets through four games, only catching seven of those opportunities for 48 receiving yards without a touchdown.

Even if Allen hasn't been his usual self this season, a trade to Kansas City could turn things around. Playing alongside Mahomes could bring out the best that the ex-2023 third-rounder can offer, especially when he considers that it was only last year when Allen had nearly 1,300 yards and seven touchdowns in just 13 games.

The Chiefs had to worry about guarding Allen twice a year throughout his Chargers tenure, so they'd likely be relieved to be on the other side of the equation for once. He's racked up 1,083 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 15 career games against Kansas City.

It's unknown what the Bears would want in exchange for Allen's services, however, it shouldn't be an astronomical price based on his age and contract status. If it's a price that the Chiefs can afford, general manager Brett Veach must pull the trigger.
