A'ja Wilson's Mom Doesn't Hold Back on Negative Comments About Aces Star

The Las Vegas Aces went back to the drawing board after losing to the New York Liberty, 87-77, in Game 1 of the best-of-five semifinals on Sunday.

The Aces fell short despite getting 24 points from Kelsey Plum and 21 markers from A'ja Wilson.

With the defeat, Wilson is expected to be more motivated in Game 2. She's had one heck of a run this year, setting numerous scoring records, winning a gold medal in the Paris Olympics and becoming the only second unanimous MVP in the history of the WNBA.

An early setback won't faze Wilson.

According to her mother, Eva Wilson, the Aces star is guided by a special phrase that she embraced growing up: "God's plan in God’s time.”

“I tell A’ja, don’t worry about all this other stuff, because guess what, if it’s for you, it’s for you, I believe that," said Eva Wilson in a report from Andscape's Mia Berry. "If it’s for you, nobody can take it away from you.”

But despite her success, the younger Wilson isn't immune to negative comments. She recently told Las Vegas Review-Journal's Callie Fin that it gets "exhausting" to navigate "a world that doesn’t necessarily want to see you succeed or constantly has to nitpick on why you’re succeeding."

The three-time MVP was called out by fans before the season after allegedly taking a subtle jab at Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark after the latter's lucrative shoe deal. Wilson also once said Clark's skin color is a "huge" factor for her popularity.

Eva Wilson shielded her 28-year-old daughter from the negativity, including "pandering questions," as described by Berry.

“People only know what A’ja allows them to know about her,” she said. “You can’t believe everything you see on social media or what you’ve read about her.

“As you start to ascend higher and higher, the more people are going to come and say what they feel they can say about you when they don’t even know you.”

A'ja and the Aces will look to tie the series against the Liberty on Tuesday.

Mom knows her daughter. A'ja please don't pay attention to haters who don't want you to succeed. Guess what you are successful & they can't take anything from you.
