Super Bowl-Winning NFL Coach Receives Cryptic Comment About His Future

    By Chris Licata,

Outside of the Tennessee Titans (0-3), who play on Monday night, the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-4) are currently the NFL's only other winless team.

Super Bowl-winning head coach Doug Pederson and company blew a three-point lead late in the fourth quarter on Sunday, losing 24-20 on the road to the Houston Texans.

When asked by a reporter after the game whether he would consider taking over the offensive play calling, Pederson dismissed the idea.

"For what?" Pederson remarked. "I thought (offensive coordinator Press Taylor) called a great game. As coaches, we can’t go out there and make the plays, right? It’s a two-way street."

NFL insider Jordan Schultz was one of many online who reshared the press conference video amid the Jaguars' rough start.

However, he also left a cryptic comment to go along with it on Monday.

"The last thing a coach should ever do is start blaming the players," Schultz wrote on X. "Doug Pederson’s comment ... won’t sit well in the locker room, nor should it.

"It’s one of the worst things he could’ve said. These next few days will be interesting…"

Speaking on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter added that Pederson, who won the 2018 Super Bowl while coaching the Philadelphia Eagles, "believes in supporting his coaches. He has always felt very strongly about that."

Pederson and the Jaguars will look to get into the win column on Sunday for their Week 5 home matchup against another AFC South rival, the Indianapolis Colts (2-2).
