Monday marked the final day of the 2024 MLB season. The New York Mets and Atlanta Braves met for a doubleheader at Truist Park as both teams were still on the hunt for a playoff berth .

The Mets only needed a win to secure their postseason spot, while the Braves needed a victory to steal the final National League wild-card position from the Arizona Diamondback.

It didn't take long for Game 1 to become the talk of social media as the Mets and Braves traded leads throughout the afternoon. Atlanta seemed poised to walk away victorious as it held a 7-6 lead heading into the ninth inning. However, Francisco Lindor had alternate plans.

Lindor smashed a two-run 413-feet home run off Braves reliever Pierce Johnson in the top of the ninth, providing the difference in the Mets' eventual 8-7 victory.

After the first doubleheader contest, Lindor had a simple five-word reaction for his game-winning homer, according to SportsNet New York .

"My back hurts. I'm tired," Lindor told reporters about what was going through his mind when running the bases.

Lindor made sure to credit his faith for the decisive HR, thanking both God and Jesus for the accomplishment. He added that even though he knew the ball was heading for the Truist Park stands "right away," he didn't want to celebrate too hard.

"There's no reason to celebrate that crazy. I gotta save my energy (for the playoffs)," Lindor said.

With the Game 1 victory, the Mets have now reached the MLB playoffs for just the second time since 2017. The franchise returned to the postseason in 2022, resulting in a 2-1 series loss to the San Diego Padres in the NL Wild Card Round.

If the Mets want to go on a deeper run this time, they need Lindor to bring his best to the playoffs. The four-time MLB All-Star has played well this season as he's racked up 33 home runs, 91 RBIs and 57 walks across 152 games heading into the second part of Monday's doubleheader.

Even though Lindor and the Mets officially clinched a playoff berth with the Game 1 win, their spot in the standings can still change. Another win would lock down the NL's No. 5 seed, while a loss to the Braves would see the Mets fall to No. 6.

Either way, the fans will see if Lindor can put the Mets back on his aching back once the playoffs officially begin.
