Friday night's college football showdown between the Virginia Tech Hokies and the No. 8 Miami Hurricanes on ESPN captured significant attention, with the game's controversial ending sparking discussions that lasted for days. It was undoubtedly one of the week's best matchups, as reflected in the impressive viewership numbers.

After Miami took the lead in the fourth quarter, having trailed for most of the game, Virginia Tech had one final opportunity to reach the end zone. Quarterback Kyron Drones launched a deep pass that was initially ruled a touchdown as time expired.

However, after a review, the call was overturned, ruling the pass incomplete and sealing a dramatic 38-34 victory for the Hurricanes, who remained undefeated and top ten in the country.

On Monday, ESPN PR unveiled the viewership numbers for the ACC matchup and they turned out to be extremely impressive for the network.

The matchup emerged as the second most-viewed Friday night college football game since 2018, attracting over 3.3 million viewers. At its peak, the broadcast reached an impressive 4.4 million viewers, highlighting the significant interest in this thrilling contest.

They changed the rules to save the ACC. Been interesting to have listened to the reply discussions. ACC heading towards hospice care, playoff pay out, Heisman Trophy candidate, ECT ECT 😂. Shit 😂.

They tried to justify that call by saying a Miami player with a hand on the ball was out of bounds. wtf does that have to do with the player in bounds with possession of the ball.
