San Antonio Spurs 'Expect to Win' This Season

Last season, the San Antonio Spurs finished 22-60. The year before that, the record was the same. No team likes to lose and rarely does a team fully expect to lose, but this year's team has a bit more confidence and swagger.

The Western Conference is incredibly loaded, with several teams looking to make the NBA Finals and even more looking for a playoff spot. The Spurs might not be ready to compete with the best of them quite yet, but it's clear that the young team is looking forward to winning.

As the Spurs set expectations for themselves entering the season, Devin Vassell has made his only goal very clear.

"Playoffs," said Vassell. "That's all I see."

For superstar Victor Wembanayma, the playoffs are more than just a goal, it's an assumption. Last season, his rookie year, the Spurs experimented, trying to figure out what works. Now that they have an idea of the type of player they're building around, the Spurs are ready to make a run.

"My emphasis is always going to be on winning and helping my teammates, making my teammates better as much as I can," Wembanyama said. "It's no different than in previous years, it's just that now, last year, our expectations for ourselves was to learn and to learn to know ourselves. I think towards the end of the year, we really showed, but this year we expect from us to win."

The Spurs ended their season on a hot streak, going 6-4 to end the season, including wins over the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets.

If the Spurs can pick up where they left off, they will be one of the hottest teams in the league. After a busy summer full of work and improvement for Wembanyama, it's fair to say that he will show off an entirely new level of talent the league hasn't seen before.
