    Cowboys Make Davante Trade Call

    By Mike Fisher,

FRISCO - There is very little about the Dallas Cowboys’ present situation - in terms or the standings, the roster needs or the long-term plan - that allows much logic behind the idea of a blockbuster trade for unhappy receiver Davante Adams.

Buy as we’ve often said, the Jerry Jones-led front office should be searching under every rock, peeking around every corner and making every phone call in the pursuit of roster upgrades … Just in case.

And now comes a national report insisting that Adams’ availability has pushed Dallas to do just that.

Adams is reportedly drawing interest from multiple teams around the league, with the New York Jets - led by Adams’ Packers pal Aaron Rodgers - leading the way. But also featured in a sourced media report? Your 2-2 Dallas Cowboys .

Dianna Russini of The Athletic is reporting that the Jets and Cowboys are among those who are "monitoring" the situation and who have “checked in with the Raiders."

Do we know and trust Russini? We do. Do we know and trust her source here? In terms of Cowboys realities … We do not.

Adams and the Raiders seem destined for a divorce by the NFL’s Nov. 5 trade deadline, and the buzz is, that Vegas might take a second-round pick and change to execute the deal.

What would Dallas look like on the field with the one-two punch at receiver of two All-Pros in Adams and CeeDee Lamb as Dak Prescott targets in coach Mike McCarthy’s “Texas Coast Offense”? Spectacular.

How does the look for the Cowboys as they are in the midst of a cap-conscious “Blow It Up” plan that would give them loads of room next spring to sign Micah Parsons and remodel? Not so good.

Maybe Adams would discuss a reworked contract with his new team. But as it stands? He’s a $30 million APY wideout with $35.6 million in base salary for each of the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Additionally, he turns 32 in December … and that’s not an ideal fit, either.

We wonder if somebody inside the Raiders organization wants the Cowboys' name mentioned because it creates the (false?) impression of a bidding war. We also wonder if somebody here inside The Star said “yes” to Russini’s Adams question because Jerry’s Cowboys know this is a headline-grabbing angle that creates the (false?) impression that Dallas is “all in.”

But if the Dallas Cowboys are truly “monitoring” the unlikely concept of trading for Davante Adams? Fine. We are obliged to monitor it as well.

Jones will turn his head the other way like usually does. plenty of opportunities to make quality adjustments and additions to the roster but his constant reasoning is dragging the team down
