The Indianapolis Colts managed to notch a 27-24 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4, but the win came with a cost. Starting quarterback Anthony Richardson exited the game twice with a hip injury and didn't return the second time, forcing backup QB Joe Flacco to finish the game.

Richardson's early NFL career has been plagued by injuries, so it's only natural that everyone is wondering if he will be healthy enough to face the rival Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5.

Two hours before Wednesday's practice, Colts head coach Shane Steichen provided an update on his injured signal-caller.

"If (Anthony Richardson) feels good and he’s ready to go, he’ll be out there," Steichen said about the second-year QB's participation on Wednesday , per Colts insider Dominic Miranda.

There's a chance that Richardson could still face the Jaguars even if his availability is low in the coming days. According to Miranda, the Colts are open to having the ex-Florida product in Sunday's lineup even if he doesn't practice as long as he feels good enough to play.

While Steichen's update is optimistic, his decision-making during Sunday's victory has been scrutinized . After Richardson returned to the game following a brief absence due to his hip injury, the first play that Steichen called was a quarterback run, resulting in the QB leaving for a second time.

The former fourth-overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft, Richardson has shown flashes of being special when healthy. In eight career starts, the 22-year-old dual-threat QB has thrown for 1,231 passing yards with six touchdowns and seven interceptions while also turning 46 carries into 277 rushing yards and another five scores.

As exciting as it is to watch Richardson on the gridiron, he'll have to start playing a safer style of football if he hopes to have a lengthy career. If he's unwilling to learn from his past mistakes, Steichen and his staff need to be the ones to step in to save the young quarterback from himself.

More about Richardson's Week 5 status will be revealed as the Colts near Sunday's road tilt with the Jaguars.
