The New England Patriots are losing a key starter for the offense in Week 5. The unit didn't need more bad news after struggling through the first four games of the season.

The Patriots have scored 52 points entering Week 4. They trail only the Miami Dolphins (45 points) for the least amount of points scored in the league. The Dolphins have the excuse of being without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who suffered a concussion in Week 2.

Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Patriots suffered a significant blow for their offense moving forward. Center David Andrews is set to have season-ending surgery on his shoulder.

"Coach Jerod Mayo now confirms that C David Andrews is going to have surgery and is done for the season," Rapoport posted on X. "'First word I would say is toughness.' Mayo called it a 'huge loss.'"

The 32-year-old interior offensive lineman has been a steady presence up front since the Patriots signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia in 2015.

The two-time Super Bowl champion has played in 124 games and made 121 starts during his nine-year NFL career.

The Patriots have Nick Leverett listed as the team's backup center on their unofficial depth chart .

Leverett signed with the Patriots in March. As an undrafted player signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, Leverett has appeared in 20 NFL games and has made 10 starts.
