When you speak to Colorado Defensive Coordinator Robert Livingston, his passion for the Buffaloes’ defense is clear. “I love these guys,” he said. “They play hard, they play fast, and they give it their all.” Livingston’s assessment is rooted in his trust in the players and their ability to rise to the occasion, even when perfection is elusive.

One of the shining stars on defense is the versatile Travis Hunter. While known for his two-way play, Livingston is quick to point out how Hunter’s “feel for the game” sets him apart defensively. “Travis, he’s a unicorn,” Livingston remarked. Hunter’s ability to read plays and disrupt offenses has been invaluable. His presence on the field forces opposing teams to rethink their strategies, contributing to Colorado’s success in key moments.

Livingston’s praise doesn’t stop with Hunter. Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig has become a leader in the secondary, described as “the heartbeat” of the defense. “We go as Cam goes,” Livingston said, emphasizing Silmon-Craig’s role as both a player and a vocal leader. His energy and commitment to setting the tone have made him indispensable, particularly in the Buffaloes’ ability to lock down the red zone.

Livingston is also thrilled by the rise of Taje McCoy and LaVonta Bentley. McCoy’s two sacks in recent games have caught Livingston’s attention. “For a young kid, you love that for him,” he said. Bentley, meanwhile, has been a force in the linebacking corps. “Bentley is Bentley. You love his energy and what he brings,” Livingston said, highlighting his physical play and leadership on the field.

As Colorado continues to forge ahead, Livingston’s belief in his players is unwavering. With key leaders and emerging stars, the defense looks poised to take on any challenge.
