Chiefs Want Handout From Raiders in Davante Adams Trade: Report

The Las Vegas Raiders are searching for the best possible option to trade Davante Adams this season. Their AFC West rival would be a good fit for the All-Pro receiver, but they have a big ask before a trade can be completed.
Wide receiver was an issue on the 2023 Kansas City Chiefs roster. The team's drop rate was the highest in the league. The Chiefs added veteran pass catcher Marquise Brown and rookie Xavier Worthy in the offseason to improve the unit.
Unfortunately for Kansas City, Brown is expected to miss months as he recovers from surgery for a sternoclavicular injury he suffered in the Chiefs' first preseason game . Second-year receiver Rashee Rice sustained a knee injury in Week 4, and there are fears he could miss the rest of the season.
The Chiefs, battling for a Super Bowl three-peat, are in prime position to make an aggressive move for wide receiver help at the trade deadline, especially with tight end Travis Kelce having a slow start to the season.
According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Chiefs are interested in Adams but not for his current market price.
"Teams like Buffalo and Kansas City are all monitoring the situation and are more likely to get involved if the Raiders are willing to take on some of the money, per sources," Russini posted on X.
Adams is on the books for $13.5 million from Week 5 through the rest of the season. That figure will drop by $970,000 each week before the trade deadline on Nov. 5.
Desperate teams might be willing to trade for Adams sooner, thus taking on more of his salary. The Bills and Chiefs appear to be patient in the trade market, wanting not only for the $13.5 million figure the 31-year-old receiver is owed to drop but for the Raiders to eat some of that money for the rest of the season.
As Russini noted, the Chiefs and Bills "can't" go "full throttle" for a trade of Adams. Per Over the Cap, the Chiefs have about $4.8 million in cap space left for the season. The Bills have approximately $3.7 million remaining.
The Bills and Chiefs would likely need to rework some contracts in addition to receiving aid from the Raiders if they were to land Adams.
Salary cap ramifications are why Adams has been heavily linked to the Dallas Cowboys (who are reported to be no longer interested in the receiver) and the New York Jets. The Cowboys have nearly $24 million to spend, and the Jets have about $17 million.
Adams is interested in reuniting with the New Orleans Saints, but they have just under $3 million to spend.
The Raiders are 2-2 this season and are trying to compete for an AFC West title against a battered but 4-0 Chiefs squad. Would they make an in-division trade to aid their rival and help cover the costs to fund another Super Bowl run?
