The inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff is a couple of months away. Still, it's never too early to start predicting which teams could make the first edition of the playoff.

One of the teams that seemed likely to make the playoffs for the first time in program history was the Ole Miss Rebels. The Rebels had a 4-0 record and were ranked No. 5 in the country, their highest ranking since 2015. However, the Kentucky Wildcats at home upset the Rebels this weekend, 20-17.

Now, ESPN's Paul Finebaum revealed on his show, "The Paul Finebaum Show," that the Rebels' playoff chances are hanging by a thread.

"They're literally on the cut line right now," Finebaum said. "For them to make the playoffs, they're going to have to beat somebody really good. That would be Georgia, LSU and Oklahoma."

Ole Miss has dropped to No. 12 in the AP Poll, putting them on the cusp of playoff contention. However, as Finebaum pointed out, the Rebels will face three ranked teams in their upcoming games. Two of these games, against Oklahoma and Georgia, will be played at home, while they will face LSU on the road in two weeks.

If the Rebels can win one of those three games and win the rest, Finebaum believes they could still make their first College Football Playoff.
