Former Minnesota Gophers volleyball coach Hugh McCutcheon has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Hall of Fame, completing the trifecta in his legendary career.

McCutcheon, who currently serves as an associate athletic director for the Gophers, has already been inducted into the USA Volleyball and International Volleyball halls of fame, meaning he’ll be just the eighth coach to be enshrined by all three.

"I am extremely grateful and truly honored to be inducted into the AVCA Hall of Fame," McCutcheon said. "Being selected and recognized by my coaching peers makes this even more special."

During an 11-year run with the Gophers, McCutcheon helped the Gophers to 10 Sweet 16 appearances, five Elite Eights and three Final Fours, two conference titles, and a 277-74 record. Along the way, he earned two Big Ten Coach of the Year Awards, coached six players to conference player of the year honors, one to national player of the year recognition, 39 to all-conference honors and 26 to All-American status.

Despite retiring from coaching, he's still active in the volleyball community, serving as a senior advisor for the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and attending the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics to oversee the Indoor and Beach volleyball competitions.

The New Zealand native will be formally inducted into the AVCA Hall of Fame on Dec. 19 in Louisville, Ky.
