Announcer Facing Backlash for Concerning ‘Thursday Night Football’ Performance

    By Michael Gallagher,

The NFL hasn’t done “Thursday Night Football” many favors by putting some of the more one-sided matchups on the schedule.

Coupled with some of the not-so-exciting games of the NFL season, “TNF” has also been under fire for the lack of enthusiasm coming out of the broadcast booth, specifically from legendary broadcaster Al Michaels.

Michaels has been under fire in recent weeks for being being "boring" and not showing the kind of enthusiasm that other popular announcers like Kevin Harlan or Joe Buck do, and that backlash grew during Thursday’s broadcast of the Atlanta Falcons-Tampa Bay Buccaneers matchup.

“Al Michaels is a legend, but he brings zero excitement to this Thursday night broadcast. Very much feels like he just shows up for the check at this point,” @PGHpositive commented .

“@NFLonPrime really gotta replace Al Michaels. You’d swear this is a super boring game with how unemotional he’s calling the game,” @Red_Beard_87 remarked .

“Al Michaels announces like football bores the hell out of him, just retire old man,” @AlexMz_4 stated .

“I love Al Michaels but he’s calling this game like it’s a 3rd preseason game and 3rd string backups are in.. don’t you have the over or something? Need some more juice here,” @incarceratedbob said .

“Al Michaels really has no interest in showing emotion in these games,” @bullzeyeno1 said .

“Feels like Al Michaels has lower energy every week,” @Johnny_Barks wrote .

During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” earlier in the day, Michaels said the online hate he gets for not outwardly showing excitement during broadcasts doesn’t bother him.

Maybe he just doesn't care about his performance since hardly anyone can watch the game.
