Michigan Backer Ups Ante on Dave Portnoy's NIL Pledge With Huge Offer to No. 1-Ranked QB Prospect

Bryce Underwood is the college football Class of 2025's top-ranked prospect who has pledged to play for coach Brian Kelly's LSU Tigers.

A state title-winning quarterback for the Belleville Tigers in Michigan, Underwood was originally recruited by current Michigan offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell and former Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh before announcing his pledge to Kelly's team.

On Thursday evening, Michigan reporter James Yoder, host of Michigan Football Report on YouTube, announced a surprising piggyback off of Barstool Sports host Dave Portnoy's recent '$3 million' NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) pledge to help find Michigan a quarterback in a class that already includes four-star Florida prospect Brady Hart.

Portnoy said this week that he talked to Michigan coach Sherrone Moore about pledging the money to Michigan's NIL program. Portnoy added that there is "one name" he needs to talk to, presumably either a high school prospect or someone affiliated with Michigan's NIL program.

"So it's gotta be Bryce Underwood," Yoder said on his X page . "But let's up the ante here folks right," he continued.

"If Portnoy goes to three million right, he taps out, if for his three million, we will add a million dollars to bring it up to four million dollars. It comes with strings attached, that is the offer to Bryce Underwood."

Yoder added that the "strings attached" part constitutes Underwood doing all of his interviews on the Michigan Football Report YouTube show.

NIL is out of control and if something is not done it will be the death of college football. There should be a cap on how much each team can commit each year…and it can be relatively substantial…but this is reminding me of the Yankees in the 70’s and 80’s (and now again)
