There was a different vibe in the air when Oklahoma City Thunder organization members took the podium to speak during Media Day on Monday. After an eventful offseason, the NBA world had been patiently waiting to get its first look at the new-look roster and hear the players' reactions to the activity in recent months.

The swirl surrounding the franchise is no joke. For the first time in years, the press room was near capacity, including prominent members of the NBA media, like ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst.

The famous talking head has maintained a high stance on the Thunder throughout the time off, mainly on his "Hoop Collective" podcast. As well aware as Windhorst is of Oklahoma City's talent and status as a championship favorite, even the veteran analyst couldn't quite compute the tremendous amount of talent he watched take center stage on Monday.

Windy's reaction to OKC's Media Day

In a recent episode of his podcast, the ESPN talking head provided some insight on the Thunder's Media Day. While it is not exactly a setting that highlights a team's performance, the number of stars donning Blue and Orange was a glaring indicator that the team would dominate for years.

"I am very well aware of who's on their roster," said Windy. "But as I sat there for three hours and watched player after player come up to the podium, I was like, 'Good God, they've got a lot of good players!' They just kept bringing guys out of the locker room, and they were all freaking good. They have a perfect chance of being the best defensive team in the league. And they got their first defensive stop on Media Day, and that was, as a team, collectively blocking out anybody allowing to be said for expectations. Being here in Oklahoma City, I am watching a team that is like, wow, this team is loaded; this is going to be a great team."

The ESPN analyst also notes that he was impressed with the Thunder's nonchalance during the three-hour session. After an offseason as striking as they had, Windhosrt expected the team to flex their firepower vocally and tell the world they had arrived.

Part of the team's unique mindset is thanks to its head coach and general manager, who repeatedly stated that Oklahoma City has to earn its spot among the league's championship contenders. I need to prove it on the court to avoid everything else being jargon.

OKC's higher-ups have demonstrated excellent leadership thus far in the activities related to the new season. Especially for a team as young as the Thunder, when it is easy for players to be overly boisterous before backing it up on the court, this is a wise approach and a good mentality to enter a critical season that expects nothing but the best.
