Jalen Brunson's Guitar to KAT's Amplifier?

    By Lance Roberson,

Karl-Anthony Towns played nine seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves and knew when to step aside. Although he didn't necessarily have a choice with Jimmy Butler, Towns swallowed his pride and did it for the team's sake. However, Towns naturally slid to the second option when Anthony Edwards emerged as one of the NBA's brighter stars two seasons ago. He looks to do the same with the New York Knicks.

"This is not my home, it's our home. JB has been building something special here. This is our home; I'm here to amplify them and be the best teammate I can be," Towns said in media availability during training camp.

The Knicks named Jalen Brunson team captain over the summer following the unprecedented team-friendly contract extension. Although Julis Randle claimed he would do what it takes to succeed with the Knicks, regardless of role, Leon Rose traded for a player who's already displayed the necessary selflessness to fit alongside Brunson.

Despite his fault as a player, Towns understands what it means to play team basketball. Although he didn't attend Villanova, his playstyle will complement theirs. As the best pure shooter on the roster, he allows the other Knicks to work in space, providing the ultimate security blanket for when the defense collapses.

Opposing defenses will hesitate to double-team Brunson, as Towns lurking in the corner presents quite a problem. Towns, as the second option, earned the Timberwolves their first Western Conference Finals berth in 20 years.

In a cruelly competitive Western Conference, such a finish warrants praise.

Imagine the Knicks' potential if they can maximize the one-two punch of Brunson and Towns. One thing is for sure: Towns has the mental capacity to play second fiddle but also has the potential to explode on a scoring run when necessary.
