Week 6 of the 2024 college football season has arrived, and multiple teams are still competing for a spot in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff.

One team trying to improve from last season is the South Carolina Gamecocks, who had a 5-7 record in 2023. This season, they have started 3-1. In one game, they had a 17-0 lead against the LSU Tigers at home before eventually losing, 36-33.

ESPN's Paul Finebaum revealed on his show, "The Paul Finebaum Show," that South Carolina's season will hinge on its game this weekend at home against the No. 12 Ole Miss Rebels.

"This week, I think, is going to determine their season," Finebaum said. "They can have a really good season with a win, but a loss is going to put them really struggling, I think."

South Carolina will face six more currently ranked teams, including the game this weekend. Two of those teams are in the top 10. The Gamecocks will play the Rebels after being upset at home by the Kentucky Wildcats last weekend. South Carolina beat Kentucky, 31-6, on the road earlier this year.

Currently, South Carolina is considered a 10-point underdog for the upcoming game against the Rebels. However, if they manage to secure a win, Finebaum believes that the Gamecocks could have a successful remainder of the season.
