Aaron Rodgers Worried About Breaking NFL Rule Regarding Potential Davante Adams Trade

The New York Jets were an obvious choice on a short list of potential trade destinations for Davante Adams when reports surfaced this week the Las Vegas Raiders were exploring options for a potential trade of their star wide receiver.

Adams has a connection to the Jets because of Aaron Rodgers. Adams spent eight seasons with Rodgers after the Green Bay Packers selected him in the second round of the 2014 draft out of Fresno State.

Adams would earn two All-Pro nominations and five Pro Bowl appearances with Rodgers tossing him footballs for Green Bay. The 31-year-old receiver caught 669 passes for 8,121 yards and 73 touchdowns as a member of the Packers.

The Jets are one of Adams' preferred trade destinations this season. On Friday morning in England, Rodgers was asked what his reaction was to reports that Adams wants to be reunited with his former quarterback in New York.

Rodgers was careful not to say too much, as he speculated giving away too many details could open the door to the league eventually punishing the Jets for tampering.

"I don't know how much I can say about it because of tampering, but I still have a close friendship with him," Rodgers said via video provided by the Jets' website. "We spend time in the offseason together. He's a great guy and a great player. The rest is out of my hands."

The way Rodgers phrased his answer could mean he does have info or has had conversations that the league would rather he didn't. Or that he doesn't want to publicly advocate for the Jets to trade a player currently under contract for a different team.

Adams and Rodgers had hinted at a possible reunion a couple of times this summer. In July, the star receiver told Kay Adams that Rodgers was in his ear .

A few days later during the American Century Championship in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Rodgers said he loved Adams and "can't wait to play with him again."
