49ers GM John Lynch Addresses Trade Interest in Davante Adams

Over the last two seasons, the San Francisco 49ers have hardly been afraid to make a significant splash when it comes to the NFL trade deadline.

In 2022, general manager John Lynch proved as much by boldly acquiring Christian McCaffrey—the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year—in a deadline move that took the 49ers offense to another level almost instantaneously.

Last year, Lynch and the 49ers traded for Commanders defensive end Chase Young, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, after Washington's front office agreed to lower their asking price .

While adding Young to the mix didn't end up being as impactful as many had hoped ( 2.5 sacks in 10 games ), the message was pretty clear.

The 49ers are always looking to add star players regardless of where they stand.

With the Nov. 5 trade deadline about a month away, coupled with Las Vegas wideout Davante Adams and his outward plea to be traded , rumors have been flying around like wild geese.

Expectedly, there are reportedly a number of NFL teams that have great interest in the All-Pro services of Adams. And that apparently includes the 49ers, despite having locked up wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to a monster deal in late August following a prolonged holdout.

Here's what Lynch had to say during a Wednesday appearance on Bay Area radio station KNBR:

The fact that Lynch leaned into the prospect of trading for Adams with "never say never" and "we're always looking," rather than quell the idea by simply indicating the 49ers are set at the position of wide receiver was more than enough to perk up the media's collective ears.

Such a scenario gets even more intriguing when the 49ers' salary cap space , an NFL-leading $55.09 million, is factored into the equation.

Yes, a whole lot of that money is already being set aside for quarterback Brock Purdy when he becomes eligible for what will likely be an enormous contact extension in the offseason.

But until the upcoming NFL trade deadline comes and goes, it would probably be wise to not be surprised when it comes to any and all potential trade activity for the 49ers.
