Alcohol sales are officially coming to more Nebraska Huskers sporting events, including football games and volleyball matches.

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents voted 9-1, with one other member abstaining, to approve alcohol sales and consumption at all Huskers sporting events on Friday.

Currently, Nebraska is the only Big Ten school that doesn’t sell alcohol at football games. With Friday’s vote, that will change.

Nebraska Athletics had already said it will move forward with plans to start offering alcohol in the 2025-26 season, meaning fans will have a chance to start buying adult beverages at Memorial Stadium next fall.

“The University of Nebraska has put a great deal of thought and care into how we approach alcohol at our athletic events. I’m very pleased that we have shown we can do this safely, responsibly and in a way that makes sense for our fans, our student-athletes and the institution as a whole,” Jeffrey P. Gold, the Nebraska system president, said in a statement last week. “This is the next step as we consider how best to meet our fans’ expectations, carefully monitor safety and at the same time bring Nebraska in line with our peers in today’s changing college athletics landscape.”

Alcohol has already been sold in recent years during Huskers basketball games at Pinnacle Bank Arena, baseball and softball games at Haymarket Park and other special events without any reports of serious alcohol-related problems.

The university says it will use a portion of the revenue from alcohol sales to invest in alcohol safety programs.
