Cotton Bowl Goalposts Suffer Major Defect Ahead of Texas-Oklahoma Clash

Next week's college football schedule is headlined by a highly-anticipated Red River Rivalry matchup between the No. 2 Texas Longhorns and the No. 19 Oklahoma Sooners.

As is the tradition, this massive rivalry showdown will take place at a neutral site: Dallas' historic Cotton Bowl Stadium.

The venue still has plenty time to prepare for this clash of college football titans as both teams are on bye this weekend. But as of Friday, the Cotton Bowl still has a lot of work to do.

College football insider Chris Vannini of The Athletic posted a photo from the Cotton Bowl tunnel on Friday afternoon. The picture showed one of the goalposts significantly leaning in one direction.

"I hope they don’t fix the Cotton Bowl goalposts for next week," Vannini joked on X.

Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns are cruising into this rivalry matchup. Texas is undefeated to start the year despite an abdominal injury suffered by preseason Heisman Trophy candidate Quinn Ewers in Week 3. Backup QB Arch Manning has stepped up in a big way, leading his team to victory in each of his first two career collegiate starts.

Ewers is expected to return as the Longhorns' starter for next Saturday's Red River Rivalry matchup.

Oklahoma is 4-1 to start the year with its only loss coming at the hands of the No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers. After that loss, Brent Venables' squad bounced back with an impressive road victory over the Auburn Tigers.

The Red River Rivalry will kickoff at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 12.
