The Michigan State Spartans battled the Oregon Ducks at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon on Friday night.

The Spartans drove the length of the field behind Oregon State transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles after a big play to receiver Nick Marsh, barging down to the doorstep of the Ducks' end zone.

It was then that Chiles fumbled the football near the goal line, giving the ball back to Coach Dan Lanning's team and completely shifting momentum in favor of the home team.

The Spartans' turnover woes were spotlighted by the Fox College Football team of Jason Benetti and Brock Huard as Michigan State Head Coach Jonathan Smith consoled his quarterback.

Michigan State's lost fumble was its 14th turnover of the season, the third most in the FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) so far this season.

Smith consoled his promising 19-year-old quarterback Chiles on the sideline and was praised by Huard for it.

"I love this right here in year one," Huard said. "Jonathan Smith who played the position, he knows you can't avoid every mistake," Huard added as he extolled Smith for staying calm and teaching his young QB to protect the football better.

The Ducks led in total yards 77-64 as of the four-minute mark in the first quarter in Eugene after Ducks QB Dillon Gabriel was intercepted in the end zone by Spartans defensive back Malik Spencer.
