Bronny James Is Trending After Chasedown Block in Lakers Preseason

The Los Angeles Lakers kicked off their 2024 preseason with a Friday night battle against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

This game also marked the highly anticipated debut of new head coach JJ Redick and second-round pick Bronny James, the son of Lakers star LeBron James.

With both LeBron and Anthony Davis not playing, Bronny saw his first NBA action early on, checking in for the first time to start the second quarter.

Less than a minute into the quarter, Bronny was already making plays on defense. With 11:15 left, he pulled off a chasedown block on Timberwolves guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker, channeling his father’s famous move.

LeBron has become well-known for his chasedown blocks, specifically from Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals , where he stopped Golden State Warriors star Andre Iguodala from scoring a go-ahead layup with under two minutes to play.

Bronny, along with many NBA fans, was excited enough about his first NBA block, which he took to social media to post the highlight during the game.

Bronny's defense looked much better than his offense during his first six-minute stint of the game. He missed his first three shots, one of which was an airball, and committed a turnover. However, the former USC Trojan did record a second block and an assist in the second quarter alone.

Bronny was the No. 55 pick in the second round of the 2024 draft. In one season at USC, the 19-year-old averaged 4.8 points on 36.6% shooting and 26.7% from three, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
